Abstract

I intend to make an introduction to incentive mechanisms and economics in networking in general explaining the most basic concepts (market mechanims, auctions, the economic notion of efficiency, public goods, etc).

I will then try to show how the different economic approaches could be used to solve? the problem of resource allocation in grid computing (most of them are actually proposed as solutions by different researchers).

Finally, I will discuss what are the main differences between Planetlab and the additional issues that arise in the case of federation.
